Around my apartment~ the UVX (Utah Valley Express)

I took a couple walks outside around my apartment this week. I live in downtown Provo where it's always busy. There are lots of people walking and riding bikes, and there is so much traffic all the time. Provo is frequently hosting events, such as the most recent one, the Rooftop Concert Series. Provo is becoming a bigger city, with taller buildings going in, lots of stores and restaurants, and new apartment complexes. To keep up with the rising traffic and commotion, the city received a federal grant to install a new UTA bus called the "UVX," which is a free (for the first three years) transportation system throughout Provo and part of Orem. Currently, the construction is absolutely awful. Driving downtown is a nightmare. In fact, I have seen several cars actually crash right into huge ditches in the middle of University Avenue, smashing the front of their cars. Most of what I saw on my walks consisted of horrible construction traffic and cars just merging everywhere, not knowing where to go. However, I think it will eventually get better. Once all the construction is gone, I think the bus system will be really convenient, and it would also help keep the air a little cleaner, too. Taking a look at Provo's overall public accessibility, I think the bus would really help the congestion. Especially because there is never anywhere to park!

  1. Hi Kaya!
I agree that the current state of Provo's is absolutely terrible! Personally, I use the UVX system everyday and find it very convenient! Once they finish constructing all the stops as well as the bus lanes I think it'll be very fast. Definitely way faster than driving your own car in traffic and finding a place to park.
It's great to see a city growing, because it means more jobs, homes, education, etc.. But there are definitely growing pains with it. I'm excited to keep seeing it grow as well as how the city responds to the issues that come with it.

    1. Thanks for the response! I am happy that Provo is getting bigger, too. :-) Hopefully the construction goes according to plan and gets done soon!

  2. I never liked driving through Provo before, but I haven't been through since all this construction! Sounds terrible. I really hope that bus helps, because Provo actually has some cool stuff, but I'm always really turned off by the thought of driving around down there.

    1. Yeah, it's never been really convenient to drive around. But Provo does have fun things to do!
